The Industrial Engineering Lab substantiates and amends the technical concepts taught in the lectures by exercises, experiments and/or simulations. These include exercises to demonstrate the principles of industrial engineering methods (e.g. business process modeling, computer simulation of a production process, distribution planning, safety stock calculation, linear programming). In addition, students will also gain practical knowledge by means of two business games. The Presto business game will help students understand how important the organization of production processes is. Furthermore, the Beer Game (a computer based business game) will address the bullwhip effect in supply chains and improve students’ understanding of logistics and supply chain management. Finally, an excursion to a manufacturing company in Bremen will be offered within one lab session in order to show how production systems works in the industry world.
